Swedish Bakery Almond Launches New Lactose-Free Dessert

Swedish bakery Almond has recently launched a creamy chocolate cake with roasted almonds that is both gluten- and lactose-free, as the research revealed that 72% of people would like to see more lactose-free options on menus when eating out.

Allergy UK estimating one in five people are lactose intolerant.

Andrew Ely, Managing Director, Almondy explains: “We’ve only scratched the surface when it comes to lactose-free; commercially it offers a huge untapped opportunity for operators, not only in catering for the 20% of people who have the intolerance, but appealing to the growing number of consumers who buy free-from. It’s clear from the research that the demand for lactose-free is there, seven out of 10 want more options and operators seen to react will stand to profit.”

Almondy’ Creamy Chocolate Cake with Roasted Almonds is available frozen and pre-cut into 12 slices for convenience and portion control, with each slice taking 20 minutes to defrost. It has a frozen shelf life of 18 months and a chilled shelf life once thawed of up to seven days.
