French impact scale-up Hubcycle and Sparkfood, a subsidiary of international holding Sonae, have joined forces in a strategic partnership aimed at reshaping ingredient sourcing on a global scale through upcycling and circular economy solutions.
The agreement finalises Hubcycle’s Series A funding round, which has already seen support from Daphni, Citizen Capital, Swen Capital Partners, Bleu Capital, ETF Partners, Raise and Techmind. With Sparkfood now joining the board, the partnership seeks to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient food system.
Turning Waste Into Value
Hubcycle’s model focuses on transforming overlooked by-product streams into valuable ingredients for human consumption. With 85% of what is considered food industry “waste” still usable and food waste contributing 8% of global CO₂ emissions, the need for solutions that rethink the system is clear.
By identifying weak points in supply chains and revalorising industrial by-products, Hubcycle is helping reduce reliance on virgin resources while creating traceable, functional ingredients.
A Year of Strong Momentum
Hubcycle’s partnership with Sparkfood crowns a transformative year that has seen the company achieve several key milestones:
- Recognition: Selected for France’s Impact 40/120 index and awarded by Minister Véronique Louwagie at the ChangeNOW summit in Paris, Hubcycle is increasingly seen as a leader in aligning positive impact with business performance.
- Growth: Hubcycle has tripled its annual bookings for the third year running, driven by strong demand for sustainable and traceable ingredients.
- Infrastructure: The company has opened a new 1,800 m² headquarters in Avignon, including a 210 m² R&D lab to drive innovation and customised ingredient development.
- Data Leadership: With over 1,500 by-product streams characterised, Hubcycle operates one of the world’s most advanced databases for industrial ingredient sourcing, providing unmatched accuracy in material-client matching.
A Shared Vision for the Future
The collaboration with Sparkfood also represents an opportunity to expand Hubcycle’s reach within an international ecosystem and apply its model at scale.
The partnership reflects a joint commitment to harness innovation, data, and industrial cooperation to build the circular food systems of tomorrow.
