Hygiena has received two international innovation awards for its new Salmonella plus Cronobacter Detection LyoKit: the 2025 International Dairy Federation Innovation Award and the Food Tech Summit Food Innovation Award. The recognitions highlight Hygiena’s contribution to advancing food safety and public health through rapid, reliable diagnostic solutions.
The Salmonella plus Cronobacter Detection LyoKit is the first ISO-validated multiplex real-time PCR method (ISO 16140-2) designed to detect both pathogens simultaneously. These bacteria present serious health risks to infants, particularly through contaminated powdered formula and production environments. The validation covers a wide range of sample types, including infant formula with and without probiotics, raw ingredients, and environmental swabs from manufacturing sites.
Traditionally, food safety laboratories have had to test for Salmonella and Cronobacter separately, leading to higher costs and longer turnaround times. Hygiena’s new kit streamlines this process by enabling dual detection in a single test, with results available in under 20 hours. This efficiency helps manufacturers accelerate quality control, reduce operational costs, and strengthen their environmental monitoring programs.
“At Hygiena, we are committed to developing solutions that go beyond compliance and enhance global food safety standards,” said Amanda Manolis, VP for Global Marketing, Product Management and Scientific Affairs. “By introducing the Salmonella plus Cronobacter Detection LyoKit, we’re offering producers a faster, cost-effective, and highly accurate testing method that safeguards vulnerable populations and supports sustainable production.”
The company also announced that Lukas Weise, Global Market Development Manager at Hygiena, has been appointed Deputy Chair for Hygiene Monitoring at the International Dairy Federation. In this role, he will contribute to advancing hygiene and microbiological safety standards in dairy production, supporting the development of accurate and practical guidelines for Codex Alimentarius.
