Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands took centre stage from March 6 to 8 as the host of Sweets & Bakes Asia 2014, alongside Café Asia 2014 and International Coffee & Tea Industry Expo 2014.
The show comprised a three-day marathon of everything bakery and confectionery, with tea and coffee as part of the mix. The concurrent shows saw the largest gathering of industry players in Southeast Asia, with 98 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions, and over 7,500 visitors.
Asia Pacific Baker, as well as Biscuit World and European Baker supported the developing show as media partners, meeting the industry’s growing interest in the Eastern market, and the enthusiasm of its attendees alike.
The inaugural Sweets & Bakes Asia 2014 showcased all components of the baking and confectionery industries’ supply chain, from machinery to equipment, to ingredients and packaging. It aimed to serve as a one-stop hub for baking and confectionery industry professionals to source for suppliers and vendors, to explore business opportunities, as well as to stay up-to-date with the latest innovations and developments in the industry.

The multi-sensory event was declared open by guest of honour Dr Lim Wee Kiak, Member of Parliament, Nee Soon GRC at the official opening ceremony held at the venue in the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. Exhibitors covered the full range of products and industry services, from machinery (accessories, bakery and pastry-making machinery – from moulders to cookers, ovens and chillers, mixers and measurement instruments or energy, ventilation and air-conditioning or technology kitchen equipment) to bakery supplies (baking agents, raw materials and ingredients, bread and jam products, dairy and chocolate) and services representatives: agents, associations, bakers, export/import companies, designers and more.
The demonstrations and technical presentations that took place throughout the show covered Asia’s latest industry trends. Some of the highlights of the topics and themes included “single serving explosion” presented by Luxe.Brew, Nature Treasure Group’s next paradigm shift on sugar replacement, “the right flour”- by Prima Group, or DCPTrading’s presentation on latest trends in cake machinery, and presentations on Egrano bread and pastry cake hosted by Martin Braun Southeast Asia.
